Reading Sprint Team
Reading has a strong team which includes all levels from GB squad to novice. The rankings for the Reading Team as at the beginning of the 2008 season can be found here.

Many of our paddlers have been selected to race internationally, both for the GB Squad and for BCU Development teams. Five of our paddlers were on the BCU World Class Olympic Programmes for 2007/8. Abi Coulson on the senior GB Podium Programme, Tom Daniels & Andy Daniels on the senior GB Development Programme, and our junior GB Development Programme paddlers were Pip Ede & Amoret King. Further Reading juniors who have been selected for GB & BCU (England) sprint teams over the past few years include Lena Beardsell, Tom Mainprize, Jack Sealey, Jess Collins, Dan Colyer., Amelia Churnside.

A number of our other top quality paddlers have been selected to race internationally in the past, and this level of success is set to continue with the solid set of established seniors and strong juniors coming through.

Our sprint team welcomes new paddlers both junior and senior and at all levels, just sign up for a Regatta and come and join the Reading Camp on the lake-front. Sprint Regattas are an ideal opportunity for the whole family to race. In 2007 we had Matthew Mainprize doing very well in his first Boys D races, Tom Mainprize racing at the top in Boys A, Peter Mainprize valiantly fighting down the course in Masters , and Sarah Mainprize in the Interclubs "Mothers K4". Sprint races take place in kayaks and in canoes. Although Reading paddlers mainly race in the kayak classes we do occasionally dabble in C-boats. At the 2008 Interclubs Regatta Brian Greenham kept himself busy by racing in the full set of kayak and canoe classes. Brian and Amoret King raced C1 and C2, joined by Nico and Sam Kirschstein and Nigel Frankland in C4. With high-kneel experts Dave Sackman and Brian Greenham at the club there is surely potential for a bit more C-boating.
Finally - if you don't want to race then you are always more than welcome to come and support the team and shout encouragement as the paddlers near the finish line.

Entry Lists for the 2009 Regattas will be posted on the club noticeboard as usual:
